The Aspect Challenge — Mastering Russian Verb Aspect

  • 12 Steps

About

Russian verbs come in pairs — писать and написать, делать and сделать — and most learners can list them long before they can actually choose between them in a live conversation. The Aspect Challenge exists to close that gap. Instead of another rulebook, this course builds one simple question — "am I describing the action happening, or the result it left behind?" — and drills it through three progressive rounds: first the core meanings of aspect in the present and past, then how aspect works inside a flowing story (sequencing, overlapping, interrupting actions), and finally how the exact same logic carries into the future tense. Each lesson pairs a short, plain-English explanation (with real dialogue examples, not textbook sentences) with hands-on practice — spot-the-aspect drills, gap-fills, and personal production tasks where you narrate your own day. By the end, aspect stops being a memorised rule and starts being a reflex. Built for intermediate learners who already know their verb pairs and are ready to actually use them.
